You no longer need to pass the bar exam to be a lawyer here in Washington!

You know, because the bar exam is racist and harms marginalized people!

What could possibly go wrong?

So the one problem to all of this is obvious. Just because there are ways around passing the bar and getting a law license, doesn't mean that firms will not want to hire those who do pass it or potential clients will not look for attorneys who have.

All this will really do is provide these bar exam avoiders something to complain about when people choose attorneys who could pass the bar over those who could not. Eventually the state will have to come up with additional laws or incentives to hire those who did not pass a bar exam to get their license.

Others suggest that those who will most benefit from this sort of situation are people with family connections or legacy. Apparently the law will still require something in lieu of the bar, likely some sort of internship or practical experience. This would be an easy way to ensure that a son or daughter is given a job in a firm whether or not they are able to pass a bar exam. It could also prove to become troublesome if law firms are more likely to provide these opportunities to legacy applications rather than those who are marginalized.

Think about it. In the past all you had to do was pass an exam. The same exam everyone takes. Now you might have to compete with others for the coveted internships or other manners to become licensed without passing the exam. I guarantee you this will cause more problems than it solves.
