Roy Cooper policies were at least partially responsible for someone arrested 14 times on Felony charges being out on the streets.

Of course, the media has gone from trying to ignore this story, to the classic "Republicans pounce" line of defense. As in, whenever there is a political story that causes issues for Democrats, any attention is labeled as "Republicans pouncing" as a way to undermine the story. Problem is the idea of a violent life long criminal just randomly killing an innocent women in plain daylight is definitely something that needs attention brought to it. Nobody is going to see this as making a big deal out of nothing. It's simply a big deal.
Now Roy Cooper has been leading in the polls in North Carolina, and would be favored right now for a Democratic pickup. But it can and will be argued that his policies are responsible for this sort of crime. Not just this one murder, but crime in general. While this will remain popular to the liberals who vote for Cooper, the swing voters who might have been in his corner may start drifting away if he doesn't address this or if he cannot address this. Trump is pushing the crime issue and if successful, it may become the main issue for 2026.
