Will Israel decide to "occupy" Gaza?

Netanyahu Says IDF, Not 'International Forces,' to Control Gaza After War

Now any normal logical person in this situation would understand why security forces will need to remain in and around Gaza after this war ends. Any normal logical person would understand why Israel cannot allow the antisemites in the "world community" to be in charge of security for Israel. It would be a little like putting the wolf in charge of the henhouse.

So I have a full understanding of why Israel wants to use their own forces to secure Gaza and the border and protect it's own country from more terror attacks. I also believe Netanyahu when he states that they have no interest in driving the Palestinians out and allowing Jewish settlements in Gaza. They do not want to "reclaim" Gaza or otherwise annex the area as part of Israel. Doing so would cause more problems than it would ever solve. Will this be seen as an "occupation" of Gaza? Probably and by many definitions of the term, it would qualify as an occupation if Israel does police the state with their own military. But as with anything there is always nuances to situations and if there was ever such a thing as a justified occupation, well this would be it. Furthermore, I would offer the opinion that the people of Gaza themselves will be better served across the board by having Israeli forces police the area rather than Hamas. If they truly want to put an end to war and destruction and poverty and all the rest, then they have to change their own behavior and that would start by denouncing Hamas and their terrorist ways.

All that being said, the plight of the people in Gaza (as well as the West Bank) is a feature and not a bug. The international community wants these places impoverished in order to illicit sympathy for the Palestinians and scorn for the Israelis. Having Israel and their Army hoarding over the Palestinians will provide much fodder to their rhetoric. Whether it will rally the rest of the Arab community to become more openly hostile is another question. There hasn't been an open attempt to wage war with Israel for some time. Just a lot of guerilla and terror style attacks, which are easy to downplay and harder to realistically prevent. But a full scale war would be a different monster and not one that many Arab countries would want to engage right now.
