Electric Semi-Trucks mandated by Government?

The Environmental Protection Agency chose Good Friday to roll out its burdensome electric truck mandate, no doubt so fewer people notice. Biden officials well know the damage they are doing, but the damage in the name of climate change is the point.

EPA’s new emissions standards for heavy-duty trucks will effectively require that electric semi-trucks make up an increasing share of manufacturer sales from 2027 through 2032, similar to its recent rule for passenger cars. The difference is that the truck mandate is even more costly and fanciful.

EVs make up less than 1% of U.S. heavy-duty truck sales, and nearly all are in California, which heavily subsidizes and mandates their purchase. EPA’s rule will require electric models to account for 60% of new urban delivery trucks and 25% of long-haul tractor sales by 2032. The harm is predictable in return for no climate benefit.

Long haul tractors must be electric? Think about that for a second. For the best of the best cars, the range usually runs around 300 miles. Trucks generally run less. For those who have driven electric vehicles, they find that on a good day they get about 70% of what is advertised, but on bad days... well.

I have a friend who got less than 60 miles on a full charges for a VW hatchback because it got somewhat cold (30 degrees or so). I have heard similar stories about electric vehicle ranges being cut in half or less because of weather conditions. Entire bus lines in towns have had to be scrapped because they performed lousy in the winter.

That being said, I know someone who bought a Rivian, which is supposed to go upwards of 400 miles in spite of being 800 horsepower. The issue? The fastest charger they have takes one hour to charge the equivalent of about 25 miles. In other words, you drive your 400 miles or close enough to stop to charge. You now must charge your battery for 16 hours to get the battery fully charged again. That is with the fast charger. The standard charger is under 10 miles of charge per hour.

Sorry folks. But these people are simply insane.
