Social media companies are receding from their role as watchdogs against political misinformation, abandoning their most aggressive efforts to police online falsehoods in a trend expected to profoundly affect the 2024 presidential election.
An array of circumstances is fueling the retreat: Mass layoffs at Meta and other major tech companies have gutted teams dedicated to promoting accurate information online. An aggressive legal battle over claims that the Biden administration pressured social media platforms to silence certain speech has blocked a key path to detecting election interference.
Funny how the liberal press is upset that freedom of the press is back in vogue? Apparently they no longer see the press as news or free opinions of the news, but rather they see the press as an arm of the government, willing to bend the knee and do what they are told.
While it is good that we suddenly have the media companies moving away from the censoring that they did for so long, the reality is that this is only half the problem. What needs to also be stopped are the people within the Government who are reaching out in an attempt to censor opinions.
Musk did a good thing by buying Twitter. Not only does it give everyone a true forum free of censorship, but it seems to be pulling the competition back towards the Musk position. Apparently they are finding out that a larger number of people want to be allowed to speak their minds than prefer to walk on eggshells scared of being kicked off the platform.
Sure, there are some who simply want to make sure they never have to see anything that they otherwise would prefer to not read. They really want those disagreements censored because their fragile psyche cannot handle the thought of someone not agreeing with them. But there are not enough of them to keep a social media platform a float.
For all the criticism from Musk haters over Twitter, demanding that there have been too many bugs and too many problems (have not run across anything serious since he took over), the reality is that it hasn't stopped traffic. Twitter has continuously reaches all time highs in traffic and engagement. Perhaps he is not making the money some had predicted, but that does not mean that the site is dying. Advertisers at the end of the day need to reach people, not save their ads for politically correct forums with half the traffic. This too will end for these advertisers as fiduciary responsibility starts to matter again. That pendulum is swinging back, and it could swing back hard.
"@ScottAdamsSays Democrats have been doing political prosecutions for a long time. People are just waking up and witnessing it because, of social media. They used the FBI, judges, police, military, beat, used water cannons, and dogs on MLK and his protesters. https://t.co/DpBuCe8fAk" / X (twitter.com)
Here you go alky, you big government-loving dumb FUCK:
Leftists arguments suck. They cannot win a debate on the facts or the merits. The empirical evidence in virtually every situation they find themselves in is almost always against them. So it's because of these factors that they must control the narrative and therefore must silence/censor their ideological opponents. Using the false narrative lie of "DISINFORMATION/MISINFORMATION to do it.
Pick a topic, any topic. The leftist position is always a DEMAND. Why? Well, their ideas suck so badly they MUST be made mandatory. No dissent is allowed, no compromise considered.
And yeah alky... many of those illegals ARE rapists and murderers. We have the body counts and the crime stats to fucking PROVE IT, you asshole.
