Those who thought this would still be undecided at the convention were always wrong.
The DNC always had stated that the official nomination would come from a Roll Call done the first week of August. They stuck to the plan.
So the race is now officially on and we can all suspect that the true knives will now come out. When you think that Trumps last battleground state buy was less than $20 million, that suggests he has been holding back to some degree. Between his personal Presidential fund and outside PAC, he has over $300 million on hand. That has to be spent over the next 100 days or so. Expect some big buys coming up soon.
I also suspect that Trump will now agree to debates with Harris, as his previous excuse was the same one JD Vance gave her. They were not sure she would be what she was when she called for the debate. Vance was 100% right and Harris was 100% wrong, not that this matters. Trump will likely want to share the stage with Harris, just as he did with Biden. Will Harris agree to the FOX debate that was just offered? Harris may or may not actually want to debate, since so far she has avoided even holding a press conference or taking any questions from anyone. She might demand (as Obama did) that she will not deal with FOX even as she will expect Trump to deal with CNN or MSNBC.
This has been the oddest Presidential race of our lifetime. Nothing even comes close. Now we are officially on, and that closes at least some of the strangeness.
If you've got time (I watched at 1.5 speed), haven't seen it and are interested this is a good interview with the "weird" Vance:
