Violent crime is down and the left has no explanation.

Far more people own guns than they did prior to 2020 and a larger share of Americans live in a household with at least one gun.

New FBI data for 2024 to 2025 shows “the largest year-to-year decline in violent crime rates since FBI estimations began in 1936.” Murder fell 18.1 percent, rape fell 7.6 percent, aggravated assault fell 7.2 percent, and robbery fell 18.5 percent.

Nothing spurs gun sales like a government promise to ban firearms in the near future. The challenge for those advocating these bans is that many, if not most, of these bans are unconstitutional. As a result, they encourage law-abiding citizens to purchase guns, and then the bans are overturned and never actually take effect. This creates a double setback for the gun control advocates.

Additionally, why do we refer to it as "gun control" instead of "crime control"?

Shouldn't the objective be to stop violent gun crime, rather than merely reducing the number of guns? As it stands, it cannot be logically concluded that reducing guns will decrease crime. Recent statistics show the opposite, although that is likely not the primary reason for the decline in crime. Closing the border and deporting millions of criminals probably accounts for much of the reduction in crime. The increase in guns is just a happy side effect.

Let's discuss gun violence and examine the details. Is it surprising that 95% of Americans will never commit a gun crime? Additionally, over 60% of gun crimes are perpetrated by the worst 1% of the population. Statistically, the individuals committing gun crimes are younger males, often with mental health issues, mood disorders, and/or substance abuse problems. Many have exhibited violent tendencies from early childhood. There seems to be no logical reason to disarm law-abiding citizens if the aim is to reduce crime and gun violence. The focus should be on identifying the one in twenty who are most likely to commit these crimes and taking them off the street.

Furthermore, 90-95% of all gun crimes involve handguns. Even among long guns, shotguns are the preferred weapon for criminals. Yet, gun control advocates and politicians, in their wisdom, suggest that banning automatic and semi-automatic rifles would solve gun violence problems. Less than 3% of murders in this country involve an "assault rifle," and when is the last time you heard of a liquor store being robbed with a military-style gun.

Finally, examining the one in twenty who commit gun crimes reveals that they predominantly use handguns, with 90% of these guns obtained illegally. Most are purchased on the black market, while others are borrowed from criminals or stolen. Given that many black market guns are brought in by cartels, it seems contradictory that those advocating for gun control also support open borders. It raises the question of whether they are just stupid or if they actually intend to disarm law-abiding citizens while facilitating criminals' access to guns.

Do they truly want more crime? It appears so, as increased crime might bolster their gun control agenda within their liberal circle jerk. At the end of the day, appeasing the masses and getting reelected is the ultimate goal here (not reducing crime). As long as they just push measures that will not help, they can continue to press the issue election after election after election.
