Two Minnesota legislators shot last night.

Man dressed as police officer killed one DFL legislator and another is in critical condition. This person apparently has a manifesto as to why and who else was being targeted.

For personal clarity, these shootings took place about 20-30 minutes from where my brother-in-law lives. My brother-in-law is also a DFL Minnesota State legislator. So this is a bit personal.

Ironically my wife and I had a discussion about how out of control things are getting in the political world and a suggestion was made that everyone should just shut the hell up and let things cool down for a while. The amount of rhetoric is out of control and things are blowing up.

There will be lots of ideas about what happened and why. One of the two lawmakers had crossed party lines and voted to end healthcare for illegals. Oddly, they had similar names (Hoffman, Hortman) which might suggest that the person wasn't sure who he was looking for. One lives in Champlin, where the biological male just pitched Champlin Park to a state championship in crushing and controversial fashion. But at this point any motive is speculation.

It sounds like the suspect fled on foot and had a manifesto of some sort in the SUV (which was equipped to look exactly like a police vehicle). Police have not led on to what is in the manifesto other than it suggested more attacks were coming. Hopefully it helps them find the person (who they now believe they can identify). I would suspect that once they locate and apprehend (or shoot down) this guy we can find out more about the who and why.
