Turley points out the obvious...

Judge Chutkan and Jack Smith are absolutely timing their case specifically around the fact that Trump is running for President.

So apparently Smith is planning on ignoring the long standing concept that the Justice department stays out of politics within 90 days of any election cycle and will push for a trial in September, October or even November if it comes to that.

Meanwhile, Judge Chutkan agrees and has declared that the trial will not yield to the election cycle. (pretty much her exact quote).

Yet the reality is quite different. The large case log in this country has shown that the simplest of cases are generally on a wait list for upwards of two years if they need to go to trial. Want to just enter a plea and have a Judge approve it? Well that takes almost a year these days. Smith indicted Trump in August of last year. If this case was actually being treated like every other case, then a Trial would not take place till mid to late 2025. Given the complexity of the case in question, if Chutkan was actually treating Trump as she would any other defendant, it might be even longer.

Turley also points out that Judge Chutkan has been pushing off other trials and states she will be out of the country for a month later this year and will have to delay those proceedings. Unless, they can get Trump on the docket, then she will cancel her trips abroad and stay home to oversee that trial. So for Chutkan, her Judicial opinion isn't that this is case that needs to be done carefully and fairly, but rather it needs to be expediated at all costs so that is can be completed by election day.

If she truly believed that this trial should not yield to any election cycle, then it should be treated like any other trial. It should not be pushed forward artificially over politics, it should not be displacing other trials and moving to the front of the line. Neither Judge Chutkan, Jack Smith, or "the public" has the right to request a speedy trial. Only the defendant does.
