Regarding the diary products - Canadian dairy farmers operate under a strict quota system and over-production is met with severe penalties. Canadian dairy farms are usually extremely well kept, and the price supports ensured by the quota system make sure they're all doing quite well. Entry into the business is hard, because one farmer needs to go out of business for a new one to gain entry.
Honestly, it's not a bad system compared to ours, where we allow our dairy farmers to wildly over-supply the market, only to have to artificially prop them up with pricing that hopefully covers their cost of production.
I had a city dweller enthralled by their perceived romanticism of farm life ask me what…

Where are they getting any of this???? They aren’t growing sugar, rice, peanuts, wheat and barley are a once year crop there where we can get 2. Eggs, Jesus if we don’t stop killing our layers it’ll $10 dozen soon.
And Canada has a lot of Asians wanting rice, I went Montreal in like ‘82 and was Chinese New Year
