The 1619 Project Education Network, in conjunction with the Pulitzer Center, have released a new curriculum for high school students that will convert some math classes into a discussion of reparations and racial justice. Students will be asked to work out the math on the payment for past years of slavery and racial discrimination.
Under the new program, students would have to do the reparations math over the course of three to four school weeks. Teachers would prompt students to “evaluate whether they think reparations should be paid to descendents of enslaved people.”
Now quite obviously you cannot create a two-three week project in a math class about how much we should be paying in reparations if you are really giving students the option of determining if reparations should be paid. I am guessing the opinion that reparations are ridiculous, demeaning, and socially toxic would give the student a big fat "F" as a grade, in spite of being 100% correct in that opinion.
As we all should know by now, the 1619 project is basically a made up version of history that tells a story that certain people believe should replace actual history. We can replace real history with fake history because the idea of reality, science, and facts are increasingly being tossed aside in favor of feelings and opinions.
But does anyone else see the "bigger" problem with all of this? As you have certain students being held captive in public schools that are deciding to follow this woke and politicized agendas, you have more and more schools who have found themselves having to reject this because of parental concern and new school boards. You also have more and more parents taking their children out of these public schools and either moving them to private schools or just homeschooling.
So what does the country look like when these two opposing sets of children graduate and attempt to interact in the real world? You will have some hopelessly politicized, believing that facts don't matter, that any and everything will be motivated by politics and racism and the idea that they are not responsible for anything. Oh, and they probably graduated with a third grade level of reading, writing, and math. Then you will have those who got a true educations, couldn't care less about the other student's feelings and will believe that things are inherently meritorious. So you have one side likely flailing and failing and believing it is due to some inherent bigotry, while you have others succeeding on merit and believing that the others are simply not up to the task.
What happens there is the fundamental liberal agenda to reject meritocracy will be amplified by everyone associated with the underperformers. While the anger and resentment of the children being taught to be angry and resentful becomes a self full-filling prophecy. This cannot possibly end well for anyone.
