They love America supposedly...

just want it fundamentally changed into something completely different.

One of the concepts that many liberals like to embrace is the one where "they" are the actual adult in the room, because "they" are willing to admit to the many flaws of the American culture. They generally dismiss patriotism and those who might claim America is the greatest country on the earth as immature, simplistic, and missing any sort of nuance.

While there may still be a handful of "my country, right or wrong" types out there, I believe that most everyone understands that humans and human nature and therefore everything human created will be flawed to some degree. At issue is what exactly is and is not a flaw (and how serious those flaws are) and what is and is and is not a feature (that someone else just might not like). You can both be nuanced and intellectually alert and still come to the conclusion that America is the greatest country on earth and that is so great for the exact reasons so many people hate it.

So why do some hate the country outright, or claim to love it while wanting to fundamentally change it? Basically it boils down to envy, insecurity, and to some degree guilt. They always demand that we need a bigger social safety net, or we need to soak our rich more, or tax corporations or even take them over.

Ironically the US spends just over 20% of their GDP on social safety net spending, whereas the UK (including Nordic countries) spend around 27%. One would think that with all of the moaning and groaning that this difference would be greater. On the flip side, in order to garner that extra 7% difference, these countries are taxed nearly double the rate that we are taxed. Moreover, these countries generally tax "everyone" while the US exempts approximately 50% of the country (because of lower wages) from Federal Income taxes all together.

What these Americans haters claim to want is some sort of a European or Nordic style of social safety net (welfare state), but what they actually want is considerably different. No way would they support a system that suddenly started to tax the little guy to achieve these goals, even as that is what happens in most of these other countries. Yes, the rich in these countries may pay higher percentages, but so does everyone else. These countries have figured out that you cannot support a system like theirs without taxing everyone heavily. What the average everyday Democratic Socialist wants is for everyone who makes more money than they do to be taxed at higher rates or even have wealth confiscated so that this money can be redistributed to them and everyone who makes less than them. It really doesn't matter what income bracket these Democratic Socialist are at... they are always at the line where they deserve more and everyone making more deserves to pay more. This is entirely about envy, greed, and entitlement. Many of these younger liberals have expensive women's studies, art, or sociology degrees and are mad that they cannot find jobs that can pay them what they demand they are worth. So they need to figure out how to take what isn't theirs from those in society that actually work hard and contribute.

This attitude is what requires us to abandon the founding principles, rip up the constitution, rewrite history, and for our county to become a place that would apparently reward people not for what they do or produce, but for what political and social ideals they attach themselves to. Human nature makes negative feelings more powerful and easier for leaders to grow their power structure and following. These people make themselves feel better about their envy and greed by demanding the founding principals were created by bad men who wanted a bad country.
