Apparently Florida held a special session to push back their date, but some Democrats still want to do the virtual rollcall prior to August 9th as originally planned.
Previously, I have suggested that the Democrats could not wait until the convention to officially declare their candidate. Now that appears to be up in the air and some from the left are suggesting that the virtual roll call is simply a ploy to end debate and push through Biden's nomination prematurely.
Now my original understanding is that the date of the convention was late enough to affect more than just Florida and that other states would be accepting that virtual roll-call as their means to address their own state deadlines. I specifically recall my own state of Washington agreeing to use that virtual rollcall. But, perhaps everyone is moving dates to accommodate the late convention. It is not exactly clear as to how this was resolved with the states involved. I just sort of assumed that Democrats would not otherwise plan to do a early virtual rollcall that was completely unnecessary. Seems redundant. Now some are suggesting that is exactly what is being planned. An unnecessary early roll call to put an end to the debate about Biden?
The media is back making a big deal out of the comments by Schiff even as fresh polling shows Kamala Harris running further behind Trump than Biden. It seems every time the wind blows funny, more people believe Biden is dropping out. I still believe that this is less and less likely. But, who knows... they may decide to actually challenge him at the convention.
One thing I have seen mention dong a bit more research. At issue for some is the threat of lawsuits over these dates if the Democrats wait until their convention. Apparently a legal group is preparing to challenge the nomination in court for several states that have a deadline prior to the DNC. They will argue that the states are illegally changing laws or for cases where they are not changing the law, ignoring their own laws by executive action. I am not sure they would have much success for the former, but the latter could cause a problem, especially if you have several different judges ruling in several different jurisdictions. The Republicans held their convention prior to the 90…
