The country takes sides...

The exposure of how much the left hates Israel and Jews has forced many people to take a side and not all are still on the same side as they once were...

One of the interesting things about the Claudine Gay situation is how it really seems to be about the larger argument here. Gay (like most raging liberals these days) is an obvious antisemite. She not only refused to do anything to prevent the harassments of Jewish students, but for all practical purposes she defended it in an open Congressional hearing. Nuanced language and smoke screens did very little to hide Gay's contempt for Jews and how little she was going to do to prevent further harassment. If anyone seriously believes that Harvard's harassment policy only takes place when threats are followed through is smoking some serious weed.

Now if you watch the gnashing of the teeth by those who are upset that Gay was forced to resign from her coveted Presidency of Harvard, you will see something very similar to the anger from the Palestinians and other Palestinian supporters. The anger is not just what they say it is about and in fact it may have little in common with what they claim. The anger stems from the fact that these people are simply "losing" after spending most of their lives being able to manipulate their victories.

There was a time not too long ago where there would have been no chance that a high profile black women with the backing of Barack Obama would have lost her job as President of Harvard. There was a time not too long ago when she probably could have done much worse and every critic out there would have sat back and just fumed about it as she smugly kept her job and support from the powers to be. Anyone who dared to step up and complain would have been doxed, cancelled, and harassed to an incomprehensible degree. How dare you question the black woman.

Likewise, the attacks from Hamas have been going on for decades to one degree or the other. No matter how bad these attacks were, Israel was told to suck it up and deal with it. A military response above and beyond some retaliatory missiles would have been incomprehensible. While our own Administration is now moving back towards the old status quo idea that Israel should show restraint, that tactic is no longer working.

In both situations, people are finally standing up to the bullies and the bullies are getting their collective asses beaten. The backlash against the antisemitism and the liberals who are pushing it has been swift. While it has not been exactly decisive, it has been at least effective. People used to getting their way are losing. People used to being given a pass are being judged. Big donors are stepping away from antisemitic universities and businesses. Suddenly the cancel culture is working against those who have used it so indiscriminately. Only in these cases the cancelling is more than justified.

This is what the gnashing of teeth is about in our liberal elite right now. The idea that they are really upset about Gay because they believe she needs to be president of Harvard is a cover. They are upset because the tide is turning against them, and what they have built over the past several years is being destroyed or even used against them. Their old ways of bullying have met a match.

Likewise, those people angry with Israel's attacks on Gaza are likely more angry with the idea that Hamas is "losing" than they are with the suffering of innocent Palestinians. At the end of the day, the sort of people who want to wipe out other races of people do not really care much for what sort of sacrifice that might take.

If the Palestinians truly wanted safety for Gaza and for nobody to be hurt, they would have expelled Hamas a long time ago. For those on the outside looking in, the same principle applies. Nobody that supports Hamas' leadership in Gaza can really suggest that they care anything about the safety of the Palestinians in Gaza. The two realities cannot coexist. What they are really angry about is that the hundreds of billions of dollars and decades invested in a war infrastructure designed to take out Israel is being destroyed right before their eyes. Everything they worked for and sacrificed for will likely be gone in the next few weeks or months. Most of it has probably already been destroyed. Their screaming right now for a cease fire is likely way more about keeping what little they still have than it is about saving any lives.

The country finally has two sides to the cancel culture and this the new reality the left will need to deal with. At the end of the day, those people who are angry with what is happening right now are angry because they are losing. Nothing more and nothing less.
