The buzz on the left?

Walz was the (ahem) safe pick...

The left couldn't be less excited about Governor Tim Walz being the choice of Kamala Harris. Everyone was expecting something big and something to continue the momentum for Harris. Perhaps an Astronaut (Kelly) or a popular battleground state Governor who would put pressure on Trump to come up with a new path to 270 (Shapiro). Instead, they got someone that almost nobody knows much about, other than he ran Minnesota into the ground with his Covid restrictions. In fact, he was nationally mocked for it. But the left wears that sort of "being wrong" as a badge of honor!

Moreover, his recent momentum was in small part because he was the man who came up with the idea that Trump and Vance are "weird" which was something that played for a few days before it started backfiring. From what everyone is saying is that Harris liked Walz because he accomplished in Minnesota what she wants to accomplish nationally, which is push through fairly unpopular liberal positions with a one seat majority. But mostly, the idea was that there was already people going through the careers of Kelly and Shapiro with a fine tooth comb and that they would be easier to attack. Apparently, Harris wants another candidate to hide in the shadows with, thinking that nobody will be able to come up with anything on the former football coach of the infamous Mankato West Scarlets (I still have my Scarlet letter jacket somewhere).

Now the left will try to paint this guy as the second coming of someone, possibly Walter Mondale. Because nothing is more impressive than being Jimmy Carter's Vice President. They are already suggesting he is a moderate, who had to win rural counties to win in Minnesota. But a quick look at the map shows that he the really only won in the urban areas of the Twin Cities, the rich Rochester area, and Duluth. The other light blue area is the area around Mankato, which was his so called home town. Well over half his votes came from the metro area where he picked up 70% or more of the vote. He is a liberal who pushed the limits with the liberal metro crowd and lost the rest of the state fairly convincingly. In fact, if you take Hennepin (Mpls) out of the results, he loses by 137K votes.

Hey, I know showing the map will disturb those liberals trying to make a different claim, but it is what it is.

Now he will also pretend to play the tough guy. Says he will run through brick walls if need be. In fact, he is already demanding that J.D. Vance will be scared to debate him, and implying that Vance is just sitting around at home watching television. Maybe that will rile some people on the left up? Get them excited? I don't know.

But the bottom line is that you can only fake enthusiasm for so long. It's barely been two weeks since Biden dropped out and I already feel like the honeymoon is starting to fade. Try as they might, Tim Walz is not going to punch that balloon back up in the air very high. Moreover, just because the right had not vetted him like they did Shapiro and Kelly, doesn't mean he doesn't have skeletons out there. Look for the stories to start creeping in.

My take is that the internet trolling on X about Shapiro as well as the Hamas supporters scared Harris and her team. They panicked and last minute switched to a poorly vetted and discussed Walz. Now they are facing a bloodbath which overwhelms anything previous. Too late to fold?

Maybe they can get a picture of Walz sitting in a tank?

These people spend too much time gazing at their own navels and have been in power way too long.
