The ad that might be winning this for Trump

In the ad Harris is heard talking about the government providing prisoners with transgender surgery and suggesting anyone who wants to have this surgery should be given that access. I have seen this clip about two dozen times just watching college football and I cannot imagine anyone in a battleground state has not seen it multiple times as well.

The thing that is effective about the ad is that it is actually Harris talking, so nobody can claim it is something the Trump campaign is making up. Since she has refused to really articulate any new position on this, the statement speaks for itself. Some fact-checkers are suggesting it needs context or is misleading. The reality is these types of fact-check statements just make fact-checkers look stupid.

There are various examples of the same ad with different people narrating. One has a vet who lost his legs in a war declaring that this was not the America he fought for. The ads all end with the suggestion that Harris is for "they/them" while Trump is for "you". I am guessing this ad infuriates the far left who are seeing it as Trump being homophobic or anti-trans or just bigoted in general, but there is no real support in America for this sort of radical push of transgenderism into society. If the ad offends you, then you are someone who would never vote for Trump under any circumstance anyways. But I would guess that many more Americans are offended by the Harris statement itself. Since Harris has done little to define herself as anything other than a hip brat who wears sneakers with suits, anything that suggests she is a radical sort of goes unchallenged. She couldn't sound more radical than how she sounds in this clip.

I would bet that Donald Trump might be one of the few politicians in 2024 who would risk putting up this sort of controversial ad. But I suspect it is working, not only with conservatives, Christians, and other people who might typically be against transgenderism, but it is probably cementing Palestinian and Muslim opposition to her as well. The left often forgets, but the Muslim demographic is way more conservative (especially about sex) than even your hard-core right-wing Christians. While they may have held their nose and voted for Democrats before, there is a growing concern from Democrats that they are abandoning Harris in droves, and this sort of pro-transgenderism stance will probably escalate the problem for her.

This line of attack won't help Trump if he wins and wants to reach across to the other side and it won't help national unity, but I certainly believe it is helping him right now as a candidate and may be playing a part in his recent momentum.
