St. Paul Police Federation President Mark Ross blamed state and local officials for the anti-ICE protest violence

Says that lack of leadership from Walz and Frey are to blame for the dead Minnesotans.

“Had we been allowed just a little bit of coordination – not in terms of what ICE is doing, but if they say, ‘Hey, we need to go to this place to serve a warrant, we’re going to be out there a couple hours. We’re nervous that crowds are going to form and give us trouble. Can you come out and help?’ That’s something we can easily coordinate with a little bit of notice, and sometimes with hardly any notice, we can get out there quickly,”

“Part of it is leadership, because the leadership in our cities doesn’t want us communicating with the federal folks. And that disconnect has created some problems for everybody, and we’re stuck in the middle of it, and public safety is everybody’s responsibility,”

“We want to be out there. We want to be keeping people safe, and it’s been really tough."

According to reports, Ross suggested that as a union president that he is being told by rank and file police officers that they would like to coordinate and help, but are being told by politicians to stay out of it. I think this is likely true based on the law enforcement people that I once knew. While there was a friendly rivalry between say the local police and the troopers (I had both in my old neighborhood) they would definitely had each other's back and would have been none too happy if they were told to not assist each other by politicians.

Of course in the narrative that the left lives in, the local police are against the Federal agents are just a step away from arresting them. Because they believe that all police officers think like them and are of the same opinion that removing known criminals from their areas is somehow a dangerous attack on their city. Does that idea seem to really be something that would resonate with the sort of people who become police officers?
