Garland appoints Special Counsel to oversee Biden Classified Document fiasco

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland announced Thursday he was appointing Robert Hur to serve as a special counsel to review classified material found in President Joe Biden's Delaware residence and a Washington office he used.

Interesting that Garland decided so quickly to appoint this special counsel to what will most likely be something that will end with a report. Meanwhile, Garland has resisted assigning a special counsel in the the more serious matters surrounding Hunter Biden and his business relationships where he appears to have sold his father's influence to foreign actors.

I suspect this is designed to appease the many who suggest that Garland is not playing fair. After all it is one thing to suggest that mishandling of classified documents is a more serious offense than selling influence, laundering money, and other international crimes. It is another to suggest that one person's mishandling is more serious than another person's and do it with any sort of straight face.

The other (fairly remote) possibility is that the left is so obsessed with getting Trump that they will offer up Biden as a sacrifice. Better to have both Biden and Trump charged in the matter of mishandling classified documents than to have them both go free and possibly face each other in the next election.

I am sure there is more to come on this... may we live in interesting times.
