Smith is demanding "speedy trial" in the fraud case that they waited 30 months to bring

The be right to a speedy trial belongs to the defendant (not the prosecutor) and why should the last indictment be tried first?

Now let's be clear here. The Biden DOJ had well over two years to bring charges against Donald Trump. There is literally no excuse to wait until Donald Trump declares his Presidential candidacy, then appoint a special counsel, then bring forward shaky indictments, then demand that a trial be held during the early portion of the GOP nomination process. If you wanted to provide a textbook example of how a standing administration can use the DOJ as a political weapon to undermine a candidacy and interfere in an election, this would be exactly how you would write it up.

Nothing has changed here between the election in November of 2020 and when Smith was appointed special counsel in Nov of 2022. There was no new information provided. Nothing changed. The DOJ had TWO YEARS to investigate these allegations "prior" to deciding to appoint Jack Smith (who everyone knew would bring charges regardless of how shaky they were). So for two years they sat on this, no charges were brought. They waited till Trump declared, and then went full throttle, pedal to the metal, all out attack on the frontrunning candidate who would likely be running against the sitting incumbent.

If you had told people this sort of thing would happen ten years ago... nobody would have believed you. But that was before just under half the country lost their collective minds in blinded white hot hatred of the "bad orange man". Now even the most egregious of political hackery are openly applauded as okay, if not noble, if they are aimed at the said orange man (who is bad btw).

The saddest part about all of this is that Smith is saving the most dishonest of all this for the DC courts where he knows he will get another stark raving mad partisan who also hates Trump and where he can seat 12 stark raving mad partisans who they will suggests represents a jury of Donald Trump's peers. All knowing full well that any conviction he might secure would be overturned by the courts faster than you can say "election interference".

Merrick Garland Appoints David Weiss Special Counsel -- Which He Should Have Done Years Ago -- in Apparent Bid to Protect Weiss From Being Investigated Over His Attempt to Defraud the Court to Covertly Confer Blanket Immunity on Hunter Biden

If you missed how it all shook out, David Weiss hid the covert blanket immunity provisions for Hunter Biden in a separate document, as an addendum to the alternative sentencing agreement for the gun charge. He kept this out of the actual plea deal so that the judge would not see it.

His scheme was to confer blanket immunity on Hunter Biden for all crimes he committed in the past, including those never named or referenced. Immunity deals are read…

Not only is Trump allowed to have lawyers to defend him, which is authoritarian in the extreme, but they’re even allowed to speak in public in his defense! NOW DO YOU SEE HOW WE’RE HURTLING INTO FASCISM!?!?!?!? How does allowing a political figure’s defense lawyers to speak in public serving the public good?

For those of you who are keeping score at home, the First Amendment is authoritarian, the Second Amendment is authoritarian, the Fourth Amendment is authoritarian, the Fifth Amendment is authoritarian, and the Sixth Amendment is authoritarian. (The Ninth Amendment doesn’t really exist, and the Tenth Amendment is racist.) We need to get rid of all that crap so we can FIGHT TRUMP’S AUTHORITARIANISM! It’s time to stand…

The Judge has all but put a gag order on President Trump.

Citing the law comes first over his 1st Amendment.
