Shit or get off the pot!

April 2nd should be the end of annoying Trump tariff game.

Look, I respect the basic concept of reciprocal tariffs and not allowing us to be allowing our neighbors to take advantage of us. But this tariff thing has become a tedious guessing game that is hurting our own economy as much as it is hurting anyone else's at this point. At best is has become an unnecessary distraction.

Either we are going to tariff, or we are not going to tariff, but it no longer appears the least bit helpful to keep putting off the decision from February 2nd to March 2nd to April 2nd and so on and so forth. Time to make up your mind and follow through with the decision now and don't just put it all off till May 2nd.

Much to the disagreement of many, there is probably a pretty fair sweet spot for tariffs to be useful. They should stay within the confines of our current trade agreements if possible and they cannot just continue to change. Set them and let them play out. I promise you that if we put tariffs in place and just shut up about them, that they will be out of the news in no time, the Market will quit freaking out, and people can move on.

The United States has been on the low end of tariffs for some time. As of 2021 we had a tariff rate of 1.47% on products. This compares to a worldwide average of 2.59%. Canada, if you are curious, has a rate of 2.39%. So we are not big on the tariffs and what Trump might add on certain products will probably not raise our overall percentage on goods all that much. It's more the political gamesmanship going on between everyone. A tariff pissing match for lack of a better term. To the degree that it has become, Canada selected a new leader almost completely because his promises to challenge Trump. This is the times we now live in. Until Trump decides to either shit or get off the pot on these tariffs, it is the world we will continue to live in.
