The entire liberal argument that the economy is good is tied to employment. What happens if things go south in that area too?
U.S. job openings tumbled in October to the lowest level in more than two years, the latest evidence that the Federal Reserve's interest-rate hike campaign is continuing to cool the labor market.
The Labor Department said Tuesday there were 8.7 million job openings in October, a decrease from the downwardly revised 9.3 million openings reported the previous month. Economists surveyed by Refinitiv expected a reading of 9.3 million. It marked the lowest level for job openings since March 2021.
Yes, everytime someone talks about inflation or the cost of living or gas prices or lower wages, the White House and their surrogates come back with "but look at the strength of the job market". What happens if that strength is no longer a strength or if god forbid is the job market becomes a liabilty over the next few months. That talking point goes down the drain along with Biden's chances of reelection.
Also we have started to see the dreaded "L" word in many industries. Layoffs are coming back in vogue after what seemed to be years of an employee market. We are still seeing almost 1.5 jobs open for every unemployed person, but are these jobs the jobs that the unemployed want? If someone get's laid off their high paying job at company XXX and all of the job openings are for shelf stockers at the grocery store, that's not really a good tradeoff.
Now we are not really into a "bad employment" situation quite yet. But if we even start to see a hint of it, then this puts a huge crack in the Democratic strategy of pushing the job market and employment as signs of a great economy.
Is that Roger or Keith Olbermann?
Roger is still sending me emails about Jan 6th and Trump trials.
He is still obsessed and gaslighted!

Me in the shorts 99. We beat Guinness Rugby Club drinking in the brewery
Arthur Guinness was just 34 when he signed the iconic 9,000-year Guinness lease, on a then-disused brewery site on 31 December 1759 for an annual rent of £45. It was here on this four-acre site where Arthur would hone his craft and build the global brand that Guinness is today.
Arthur began by brewing ale and quickly built up a successful trade and, in the 1770s, he began brewing a new type of English beer – called porter.
