Well I still wonder what world they live in?
So remember when Paul Krugman suggested that "real wages" were actually going up under Biden? Well apparently not in 2022 (and we sure know it did not go up in 2021). I guess he believes it will go up in 2023?
Oh... and the poverty rate soaring? Is that supposed to be good news that reflects an economy that by "objective measures" is doing "extremely well" as suggested?
Bottom line is that I am still trying to figure out what exactly these people are measuring to determine that the economy is doing so well. Sure, after Covid wiped out tens of millions of jobs, many of those jobs are coming back and the unemployment rate sits around 4% (which is good). But that has way more to do with jobs coming back than creating new ones. There is also a well known fact that more people are retiring than currently entering the workforce. Oh, and as we can obviously tell, the new/old jobs are not increasing wages to any degree.
There is a reason why consumer sentiment is down, people are worried about inflation, people believe the economy is doing poorly, and people ultimately believe we are going in the wrong direction. This reason is not about conservatives "gaslighting" people into believing something that isn't true. The reason is that deep down in people's gut, they know that things are not good and see it everyday. What Krugman and other liberals are attempting to do is gaslight people into believing what they want them to believe. Which is that things are going well because a Democrat is in charge.
We have been watching Krugman do this for years. When Clinton was President everything was great. When Bush became President a recession was around every corner. When Obama was President everything was great again. The economy was just about ready to implode at any given time during the Trump years. Now everything is supposed to be wonderful because a Democrat is back in the White House.
The economy has nothing to do with anything. It's who is in the White House that matters.
Bottom line is that I am still trying to figure out what exactly these people are measuring to determine that the economy is doing so well.
