Wicked star Cynthia Erivo will play Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl.
You cannot really make this stuff up!
Cynthia Erivo is set to play the role of Jesus in an upcoming production of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl! The musical, by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, will be mounted at the iconic Los Angeles venue this summer.
Okay... I had no real problem with John Legend playing Jesus in that production, even as Alice Cooper clearly stole the show, but a black woman? This is clearly designed by some in the woke California community to simply try to flex a bit of flabby non-masculine muscle.
Will the liberals all come out in droves to support the black actress portraying Jesus Christ? I am assuming not many hard core Christians will be stopping by to catch the show? Did I mention that she is also gay?
Now I am not doubting the talent of Erivo, but I am doubting the casting here just a bit. I might be wrong, but I think there are lines that don't really need to be crossed, and this might be one of those.
