Alvin "nobody is above the law" Bragg of all people decided to drop the charges?
Nearly all the protesters charged with storming and occupying Columbia University’s campus during heated anti-Israel demonstrations won’t face criminal charges, Manhattan prosecutors announced Thursday — drawing outrage from law enforcement and Jewish advocates.
District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office dismissed cases against 31 of 46 people charged with trespassing in the Ivy League school’s Hamilton Hall after a dramatic April 30 NYPD raid rounded up protesters on the Morningside Heights campus.
Apparently Bragg and gang claim there is not enough evidence to prove they were in the building. The crack pot team of Manhattan investigators and prosecutors were simply out played here because many of these clever criminals had surgical masks over their mouths and they covered up the video feeds. Yep, they got you now. No criminal has ever thought to wear a mask or disable surveillance before. I guess it is the new get out of jail free card.
But didn't they arrest these people when they were still occupying the building?
Maybe it is just me, but I don't think you need the FBI profile team of geniuses depicted in Criminal Minds to come to the conclusion that the same people you arrested coming out of the building were the ones inside the building holding it (and people) hostage. What possible reasoning is there to believe that you actually "got the wrong people" because they wore surgical masks. You physically took them from the building and went and booked them. Their mere presence in the building is proof positive of one of the crimes. How is it that you cannot prove it?
Obviously the concept of prosecution isn't about proof, but about desire to charge and have them stand trial if it comes to that.
