New York City Universal Childcare to cost 27K per child?

Double what his campaign suggested. You cannot make this stuff up!

The average daycare (such as a KinderCare or something similar) is around $1500/month or 18K per year. Those are full scale pre-school style daycares that takes care of all food and other expenses. Many of the employees have acutal teaching certificates.

Moreover, these are considered above average day cares and quite expensive for many people. We paid about half that for an in-home daycare before deciding to move to something a bit more regulated, structured, that also offered pre-school type learning. So why would it cost 1.5 times that for universal daycare in New York? Wouldn't just save money to reimburse people to go to a daycare of their choosing? Doesn't this just further prove how incredibly inefficient it is for the Government to run anything? Given it is the Government, they would likely hire more on DEI than on qualifications and who knows if these children would get the same benefits of a pre-school learning center, or if it would just be glorified babysitting, or dare I say a "learing" center?
