Negative inflation in August?

They expected a 0.3% rise and got a 0.1% decrease to the wholesale inflation numbers... unexpectedly of course!

A gauge of wholesale inflation showed prices unexpectedly edged 0.1% lower in August, after jumping a month earlier. Economists had expected a 0.3% monthly rise. An equivalent readout on consumer prices is due Thursday.

"Just out: No Inflation!!!" President Trump posted on his social-media platform. He repeated calls for the Fed, under Chair Jerome Powell, to slash rates.

Powell will be running out of excuses for not lowering rates, and one might assume the rates should be lowered more than just a measly quarter percentage. That being said, this will be the third time during Trump's term where the CCI went down, and neither of the first two prompted Powell to lower rates. So who knows that evil lurks in the heart of the Fed these days.
