Musk abandoning plan to start a new Party and will back Vance in 2028.

Realized that pissing off all the powerful Republicans after pissing off all the powerful Democrats is not a great idea.

So perhaps the Musk Trump feud with the Donald is subsiding. Either way, according to the Wall Street Journal and others, the former DOGE guru had cancelled meetings with the people who are looking to start a new party and is now looking at putting his investment moving forward in pushing for JD Vance to follow Trump as President. While the suggestion is that some of this could change, there really doesn't appear to be much of a window to get anything started before next year's midterms. At best, Musk could look to start something for the 2028 Presidential election, but that now appears to be a long shot.
Apparently what Musk has realized is that starting a new "American Party" would simply siphon off votes from the Republican Party and likely just help the Democratic spendoholics win more control. Go figure. Has any real third party ever done anything but siphon off votes from the party they are most closely related to? While some (like the Reform Party or the Independence Party) maybe more in the middle than others, the reality is that those parties are still more attractive to one side than the other and they generally work against the long term interests of the party that they are least annoyed with.
Now obviously this is nothing new. The problem with the powerful two party system is that it is exactly that... a two party system. Unless you ended up with four or five different legitimate options, then any powerful third party is always going to be a spoiler of some sort. Perhaps Musk always knew this, and in the heat of his feud with Trump, he didn't care. Now that things have mellowed out a bit between the two, perhaps he is making a determination that this is not a fight he wants. One way or the other, it is better to have a guy like Musk for you than against you. If I am JD Vance, I am trying to figure out a good way to embrace Musk without irritating Trump too much in the process. He will be better served with both surrogates if he decides to run in 2028.
Either way, this is good news for the GOP in general.
