Liberals excited about that Gavin Newsome speech?

Didn't read about it, much less hear it? Well join the club.

Presidential Aspirations?

“Newsom, for his part, delivered a pretty extraordinary address to the nation last night, in which he sought to position himself as the leader of America’s anti-Trump opposition. Speaking directly to camera in a crisp, eight-minute monologue, Newsom denounced Trump’s aggressive deployment of ICE officers and military forces in LA — before raising his eyes to horizons far beyond his own state.”

If liberals really want to go "liberal" then Newsom might be that guy. While has been spending a lot of time recently pandering to the moderates by trying to play both sides of issues, he seems most at home just being an unabashed unapologetic far left west coast liberal. In many ways he is exactly what is wrong with the far left of the Democrats party which is why the far left loves him.

Obviously the problems here are that almost nobody right of Bernie Sanders ultimately is a fan of rioting. As much as Newsom and others are trying to gas-light people into believing these are quiet lawful first amendment protests, the proof is in the pudding and almost nobody is buying what they are selling. They need to be "right" about the underlying issue to argue that what the President is doing is wrong. If they are wrong about whether or not there are harmful rioting and whether or not they actually have them under control, then they are also wrong about resisting the President's actions.

But what Newsom and others really are saying (if you choose to not buy the bullshit) is that they do not take issues with the people who are rioting in California and they do not care if federal agents or federal buildings are under siege. They believe it is their right to allow these riots to continue because they incorrectly believe that such rioting is a good thing for the country because it opposes Trump and his policies. The idea of a federal response to an attack on federal law enforcement and federal buildings simply takes this power away. Trump may be the only Presidential candidate in our lifetime who has no qualms about sending in marines to protect ICE agents. Which, at the end of the day, is probably why he is a two time President.
