Let's call it a draw! Iraq warns Qatar of attacks, hits nothing, then declares to citizens that they obliterated a US military base?

Seems to me that Iran is just trying to save a little face here. Nobody should be buying it and I am not sure that this will warrant any sort of response.

We'll see if there are anymore air strikes coming from Iran. I doubt they have many missiles left. They apparently hit Qatar and tossed like three missiles into Iraq. I think this gives the President an out if they want to hold off from any additional escalation. Iran has pulled this stunt in the past as well when they are up against the wall. Just let our people believe we did something and we won't actually harm anyone.

So the logic here would be that if the US really did retaliate, then it would look like Iran must have actually harmed someone in the eyes of the Iranian people. So doing nothing seems most logical. The other option would have been to throw a few missiles at the actual launch site, but that seems like it would be more trouble than it is worth. My guess is that any retaliation at this point is going to come from Israeli forces which are now capable of doing pretty much anything the US is capable of doing, now that the bunker busters are no longer needed.

The bigger issue is that they look to be following through with their promise of closing that straight of Hormuz. But apparently that is simply holding up Chinese and other Asian ships as the US and most European allies do not need to use that straight. I guess pissing off the Chinese and Koreans over what the U.S. did is the best that Iran could come up with. I wonder if that is a wise global-strategic move?

Well, think about it. Iran has to show some retaliatory effort, and fucking with the passage of the strait is their only move, as ineffectual as it will turn out to be. IOW's, they can't just sit there and do nothing.

And yeah,…
