Talk about a pivot to the general election! Trump says abortion should be left up to the states and supports a 15 week ban as his ideal.
There are some upset Republicans who feel that the President is abandoning the issue in the run up for the 2024 election. Lindsay Graham and Mike Pence are two prominent Republicans who have called him out.
Trump has responded with the prudent idea that pushing a total ban or even a 6 week ban is a loser. He argues that it will never pass on national level and it only harms the GOP in the elections. He suggested that his ideal is a 15 week limit, which plays right into the sweet spot of what at least a plurality (if not majority) of Americans want to see. He takes credit for getting Roe v Wade overturned and says the whole idea was not about a national ban, but about putting the issue back into the hands of the state.
I personally like this stance. I think 15 weeks is reasonable, especially when you consider exceptions after that point for health and other factors. I would not be against a national 15 week if it came to that, but for now I have no issue with some states having 6 week bans and others allowing it without limits. That is really what Federalism is all about. Allowing states to appeal to their own constituents without big brother demanding otherwise. That being said I am not passionate about the abortion argument either way. I think it is way overplayed on both sides and overvalued by many one-issue voters.
The question is whether this will hurt or help Trump in 2024. This likely pisses off the hard right pro-life Republicans, but it tempers the issue for most voters who are more like me. If Biden sticks with the idea of not pissing off his abortion without restriction hard left radical base and Trump plays to the middle, I believe it likely helps Trump in the long run. I simply do not believe that the Pence type Republican is going to change their mind over this. Either they have already decided they are never-Trump or they will pick him over Biden as a matter of lesser of two evils. There is a reason why Presidential candidates pivot to the middle. It generally works.

Obviously I misspoke and meant to say the sun, but as usual, Republicans are focused on stupid things instead of stuff that really matters. What can I say though, foolish thinkers lust for stupidity! x.com/rncresearch/st…
