Now there is even talk of her going on Joe Rogan's podcast.
Both of these would be virtual minefields with potential disaster written all over them. If Harris believed she was winning or was at least running neck and neck, would she agree to do these sorts of sit downs?
Now when Harris was ahead, she refused to even talk to the media, reporters, or even to voters in any unscripted manner. Even their day in the life events (such as stopping at a convenience statin) were scripted with paid actors in place of actual people. She was harshly criticized for ignoring the media and not answering questions, but that strategy stayed in place as long as she was leading. It became apparent that this was the favored strategy and if she was still in any sort of comfortable position, she would no doubt still be avoiding things.
Yet, some are apparently suggesting that Harris might need to go after a bigger percentage of the GOP voter to really secure this election. They believe that Trump's hold on these Republicans is not quite as strong as suggested and that she could pull a good portion over is she just made the case to them. This is a dubious but growing suggestion from many on the left. Grasping? Perhaps.
But she already did what some are calling a press tour where she basically sat down with friendly figures. Her 60 Minutes interview was so bad that CBS had to edit the results and now people are calling for the full transcript to be released. This turned out to be a net loss for her, most would agree. She also went on the late-night show with the ultra-liberal Stephen Colbert and that went unnoticed by most. Who knew that Howard Stone is also pretty much an ultra-liberal? But we do now, after he had Harris on and acted like someone with a school-boy crush. Lastly, she did an hour on "The View" where she made probably the biggest mistake of her campaign when she suggested she would have done nothing differently than Joe Biden did for four years. Opps.
Even MSNBC published criticisms of her so-called tour. The criticism is that it did not help because she either didn't or couldn't answer the questions she needed to. They criticized both the friendly low risk aspect as well as her performances.
That obviously begs the question.
If Bill Whitacker ate her up so bad they had to edit the interview, how do you think she will do, not just with Brett Bair, but with FOX news who will not be doing anything to assist in making the interview look better. She may even be forced to do it live. Certainly, that this the minefield for her on a potential podcast with Rogan. There is no going back and editing it, and I would bet you that Rogan might even allow a caller or two to ask Harris some real questions. Does she really want to do this for the first time on a Joe Rogan podcast?
Meanwhile, after engaging in plenty of hostile interviews and talking to anyone who wanted to talk to them, the Trump/Vance campaign is said to be trying to reign in the interviews and unscripted events. Trump ignored Harris' call for another debate, and they are starting to spend more time on more friendly formats and holding rallies. The Trump campaign is suddenly acting as if they are now ahead and don't want anything to upset that applecart.
Bottom line: if things were neck and neck (as the Harris campaign is suggesting) then why go with the high risk and low reward types of interviews with unfriendly hosts? If she was where her camp says she is (even or bit ahead in these battleground states), then why not just roll down the last three weeks with the monster ad buys and some fluffy stuff that will continue her "joy" campaign? If they have proper support with the single cat ladies and transexual voters, do they really need to try to pull Republicans from Trump to win this election. If she was unable to perform well enough in friendly territory to push the needle, then why expose her to anything potentially hostile that might harm what their campaign is suggesting being a winnable race that just needs to focus on turnout?
It certainly seems unnecessary for her to do these interviews...
Unless they are actually necessary.
