Either David Weiss is dumber than a third grader or he simply refuses to tell the truth
In his House interview, Weiss continued to insist that he did indeed have full authority to bring any prosecution anywhere. When confronted by the fact that Estrada and Graves refused to cooperate, he admitted that he had asked for a special status to allow him to move forward on the cases under what is called “515 Special Attorney authority.”
However, a house investigator stated the obvious: “But [515 authority] wasn’t granted, right?”
“Yes. We have been over this. It wasn’t granted. They said follow the process. I followed the process…I asked for something, and in that conversation, they didn’t give it to me.”
The investigators then pressed again with the obvious: “When you ask for something and they didn’t give it to you, what is that?”
So when you ask for something and they didn't give it to you... That is called by all definitions of the word... a denial. At least that is what any third grader would understand. I wanted to eat candy before dinner. My mom said no. I wanted to stay up past bedtime. My dad said no. I wanted to go play outside in my school clothes. I was told to change. These are all things that any normal third grader would understand as a "denial' of their request.
But David Weiss apparently does not have that same basic understanding that a request is either provided or denied. He believes there is some other understanding of the term:
Weiss responded “I’m not — you want me to say it’s a denial, but it’s not. Not when I know that, weeks later, I was specifically told, ‘You can proceed.’”
Weiss insisted that he was asked to “proceed with this process. We’re asking you to go through this process. From my mind, it’s a sequencing event. It’s not a denial in any way, shape or form.”
That is when he added “That’s the way I interpreted it.”
The ability to "proceed" in this case was to "proceed" to ask those in charge of the various jurisdictions if he could charge Hunter Biden with a crime in that jurisdiction. Coincidently, those requests from Weiss were also not granted. Although I am sure Weiss would demand that not being granted is also not a denial.
So he was not provided the 515 special status to bring charges on his own. So he had to go through "the process" and when he went through "the process" the people in charge of those jurisdictions did not allow him to bring the charges. That sounds to me (and I expect everyone reading this) to be not just one but multiple denials. A denial of special status as well as denials of his request to bring charges.
But apparently that is not the way Weiss "interpreted it". Regardless of the fact that he both asked for special status and asked to bring charges in other jurisdictions and was rebuked both times, he still insists that he had full authority to bring the charges he never brought. Begs the question if he has an alternate reason why he did not bring charges? Because it seems painfully obvious that he didn't bring them because he did not have the authority to do so.
My problem with Weiss is that all he does is play word games and obfuscate (which is kind or what you said). He should have been fired, not given more responsibilities. But that is why he was, right?
