Velshi then sought to clean up his earlier remarks by being more pro-Jeffries, “And I suppose it wasn't wasted, because most of the nation was watching this very, very closely last night. So they got their-- for a lot of people, that was their first real taste of what Hakeem Jeffries is as a speaker.”
Jeffries gave his speech slightly after 1 AM Eastern. The idea that “most of the nation” was watching C-SPAN or cable news at that hour and fell in love with Jeffries is as comical as it is absurd.
So the election of Speaker McCarthy was not the news MSNBC was peddling, but rather they were talking about a speech given by Hakeem Jeffries? Not only that, but they believed that a speech by the minority leader given in the wake of a unique if not historic Speaker election was what the American public was interested in.
So there is partisan behavior that pushes a narrative and then there is absolute out of touch mindsets that the narrative you are pushing is what is real. Maybe for the million of so viewers (out of over 300 million Americans) who do watch MSNBC, they are lock step in the idea that the real news on Friday night was what Jeffries had to say. But even if that was the case, that is no way to "increase" your ratings share.
CNN is attempting to go back to being an actual news channel. I think most Americans are rooting for that to actually and literally happen in a manner that only leaves marginal room for disagreement (which there will always be). If they can pull off the idea of just reporting the news without the underlying slant of the person reading it altering the meaning, then I think most Americans would even root for that to succeed. Even I might be willing to watch CNN if CNN was the CNN I watched when it first came out.
But MSNBS is still living by the strategy that it is up to the news teams to explain in liberal political terms what each story means and why each story is further proof that liberals need to be in charge and conservatives all need to be drawn and quartered. They also "carry the water" for Democrats.
They are like the local Minnesota news team who might interview Viking players to get their take on the Packer Lion game. But of course if you live in Minnesota you are supposed to care about the Vikings and you might be interested in what Kirk Cousins has to say. On the flip side everyone expects ESPN to report on the game itself (not what Minnesota players think). In essence MSNBC is behaving like the local news for the Democratic Party and would prefer to report on how Democrats view the Republican and their election. If they were more like ESPN they would be covering the actual election (not the opinions of the team not playing).

I never could believe anyone could take MSNBC as a trusted source if they had any IQ
and this is a great perspective on how Biden is handling dissenting journalists:
