Joe Biden signed a bill into law that raised the sentencing guidelines for lying on a gun application from 10 years max to 15 years max... Now Hunter probably faces charges for lying on his gun application.
So the bill President Biden signed makes the entire sentencing harsher for this particular crime. While it would be unlikely Hunter would face anything in the maximum 15 year vicinity, the new law makes it tougher to let him off with probation.
Possibly even more ironic here is that the Biden defense team is rumored to want to make a second amendment defense that would argue that the entire law (that his dad happily made a more serous crime) is unconstitutional.
At issue was the fact that many forms of drug use is still a "federal crime" even if those drugs (eg - marijuana) are legalized in many states. So on the form, you must state that you do not use drugs in order to qualify for the gun. Hunter claimed he was drug free and it take little to prove that he was in fact, not even remotely close to being drug free. He had literally been in and out of rehab for drug use. More to the point, Hunter was not just a pothead, but was involved in many other forms of drugs.. which he lied about on his gun form.
Of course, this is only one of the many crimes that Hunter has committed and the Department of Justice is simply sitting on. But it does remain one of the most obvious crimes and one that really has no practical defense (which is why they plan to make a second amendment claim). Of course... we all know what is coming. Either the statute of limitations runs out or Joe will Pardon Hunter on his way out the door. Either way, Biden will not face any consequences for his criminal behavior.
