Harris visits border in the wake of reports of 660,000 criminals crossing border during her watch

This was an ill-advised cringe-worthy photo-op that even some people on the left thought to be a poor political move

Over 13,000 murderers have been allowed into our country, you know because they are just hardworking people who just want a job and a better life for their families. Same for the 16,000 who entered our country with sexual assault convictions. Of course, we all know that calling murderers murderers or rapists rapists is racist and bigoted if those murderers and rapist speak a different language and come from a different culture. Who knows, murder and rape might be acceptable in their home communities. Don't these evil Trump supporters ever think about that?

All sarcasm aside, the timing of the visit to the border just as these numbers were released was a laughable coincidence for Harris. She was looking to highlight her new-found tough on the border rhetoric but found herself defending the indefensible. The worse part about it for Harris is that she couldn't really get herself to call for a border shutdown when push came to shove, instead offering that it doesn't have to be an all or nothing situation. She insisted that the idea of tightening borders was not inconsistent with still allowing people into the country in responsible and humanitarian fashion. Apparently, Harris must be being told that the country isn't upset with millions pouring across the border, but rather the country is upset with how these millions are being treated as they do. So I guess Harris wants us to continue to allow murderers and rapists to enter the country, we just need to do a better job as to how we treat them as they cross over. Perhaps a welcome basket would be something to consider?

You still get the feeling that Harris is trying to come up with another manner to bounce that beachball one more time up in the air before it falls to the ground. Why make a point to play to your weakness if you are really running ahead in this election? Well because she needs to keep her "joy" going for a little while longer and not allow reality to cloud that feeling. The problem is that she may be running out of opportunities to keep that ball up in the air. One has a feeling that if it finally does fall to the ground, that it might be hard to get it back up and going again. Joy can only take you so far when the realities of the situation become overwhelming.
