“Today, my 15+ year adventure at Google came to an unexpected end when bleary eyed and still half asleep I checked my phone and saw a notification that my corporate access expired alongside a NYT notification announcing the layoffs,” wrote senior marketing manager Elizabeth Hart on Linkedin.
While it’s sad that anyone could suddenly lose their jobs and livelihoods in the blink of an eye, it should be a lesson to everyone that every action a corporation takes is done so because they believe it will benefit the company in some way. Every “woke” action that makes it seem like it’s a socially aware company is just an attempt at a public relations win.
So the woke company that cares let employees know by having their phone give them a notification that their access was terminated, then read on-line that Google had laid off thousands, to then be notified later by email that they were no longer employed. Now I have been through and survived quite a few layoffs and these were 95% handled face to face and in the office. Perhaps now that people are working remotely things might be a little different. But we do have a thing called phone calls and occasionally it is nice to literally talk to someone. Even back in the day we still had one or two remote people or someone on leave that had to be notified via phone. But this was still not done via email.
This closest we had to something like this was that we had a timing issue where come laid off employees came into the office and found that their key cards did not work. Once we became aware of the fact there were people being laid off, it was fairly simple to figure out who was likely not making the cut. Key card worked you were safe. Key card did not, well then people were packing before they got the call. But that was a mistake and the company apologized for that.
But what is "wokeness" if there is no consideration or niceness to go along with it? How are people supposed to get behind wokeness if wokeness is simply transparent pandering?
