Still considering whether Fani should be removed for her unprofessional conduct
What a difference bringing charges in a red state versus a blue state. In New York, Trump was not allowed to even be heard in any appeals. Any and every appeal was shut down as fast as they were brought. In Georgia the appellate courts are actually taking them seriously enough to listen to the actual arguments. Wow! How crazy!
While Fulton County might be the closest thing to a Manhattan or DC in the great state of Georgia, the state itself is not overwhelmingly liberal like New York is. So Fani does not have the advantage that Alvin Bragg has in New York or presumably Jack Smith in D.C. Smith is running into his own problems in Florida, but that is what happens when you are trying to bring a complicated unprecedented case in a time frame of about half of the normal time for a Federal case to go to trial. Of course the D.C. Trial judge would likely bend over backwards and agree to start the case in October, even it it meant keeping a Presidential candidate off the campaign during the last weeks of an election. She even suggested out loud that she is going on vacation and all of her cases will need to wait... unless she can squeeze Trump into court. Then all of her plans would be cancelled. That sort of singling out of one case by a Judge is more than enough to prove she is not planning on being fair.
The bill of rights provide defendants the right to fair trials. This requires that judges take put fairness and the rights of the defendants ahead of the prosecutor's desire to get something to trial before an election. Contrary to popular liberal belief, there is no right to a speedy trial for the prosecution. If the defendant has a valid issue that they want litigated before a trial, then that issue should be litigated and the time it takes should be of no concern for the prosecution or the judge. It is not "fair" to simply deny defense requests because of an artificial time constraint attached to the case by the prosecutor.
