Fauci logic?

Multiple studies prove that mask mandates did nothing to stop the spread of Covid nor did they do anything to prevent deaths at any macro level...

But Fauci still demands that masks work on an "individual basis".

What?

Of course, math, logic, and common sense dictates that if masks protected individuals from catching or dying from Covid, that this would reflect itself in the actual numbers of people catching or dying from Covid.

Likewise, if places where there were mandates and everyone wore masks still had the same amount of Covid cases and Covid deaths as those where there were no mandates and people did not wear masks... then it seems rather clear that masks didn't help.

It is literally impossible for a mask to work on an "individual basis" and not work to lower the actual spread or the actual amount of deaths at a macro level. Nobody who calls themself a scientist could logically disagree. It would be like arguing that less individuals were getting into car accidents when the actual numbers show that the number of individuals getting into car accidents did not decline. One is related directly to the other.

So what in the love all all things holy is Fauci talking about?

I would guess he is referring to the studies conducted where people tested masks on mannequins. The study was simple, stupid, and ultimately useless. They would blow enormous amounts of flehm into the face of a mannequin (one time masked and the other time unmasked) and measure the amount of flehm that made it to the nose and mouth area. This was designed to simulate one person sneezing directly into the face of another at about a 12 inch distance. Obviously a mask would prevent some of this "flehm" from getting on the nose or mouth. I am not sure we needed an experiment to prove this, nor have I ever in my 6 decades on the planet seen one person sneeze directly into the face of another person at any range, much less 12 inches. One has to wonder what we spent on these studies. I could have told them this for half that cost!

But, nonetheless, the CDC used these sorts of experiments to suggest that mask wearing would help. While this might be true in a community where it was generally usual for people to sneeze directly into each other's faces at close distances, I have yet to encounter such a community. I guess if you ever "did" encounter such a place, then wearing a mask might make sense... at least to keep yourself from having to wipe off your face several times a day, if not to stave off viruses. But if it was me, I would probably choose to move to more normal community, rather than choose to wear a mask.

I would have way more respect for Fauci if he were to simply come out and say that they were wrong. That they were not sure how mask wearing would affect the virus, but out of an abundance of caution they wanted to use all available options to control things. Now that they have analyzed the data, they realize that it did not work as intended and are not going to recommend mandates moving forward. At least we could see that they are actual real scientists who are willing to adjust to reality. But as it stands, Fauci is stubbornly sticking with the same strategy that obviously didn't work before? Why? Likely because masks became a "politicized" issue and admitting that your "side" was wrong about a hot button issue is not what people do in 2023. This is exactly why almost nobody trusts anyone in the Government anymore. Things are too politicized which requires people to dig in.
