So far, I have not found a single economist who believes price control will work or that grocery stores are engaging in price gouging (or gauging as Harris would say).
I admit to being pleasantly surprised that the media is not lapping up the price gouging rhetoric delivered by Kamala Harris. In fact, most of them are suggesting it is actually bad policy, which suggests that there are limits to what they will pass along as legitimate political proposals. The problem is that if Kamala was elected and something like this was imposed that the country would likely fall so far into economic decline that the Democratic brand would be seriously injured.
So far, I have also not seen any economists seriously embrace her idea about a $25K first time homebuyer credit either. It's not the downpayment that is the problem right now, but the cost of homes and the interest rates which makes things unaffordable. When I left Minnesota, I owned a four-bedroom two-bath house in a nice family friendly low crime neighborhood. I paid $1250 for my mortgage payment. That same house today would cost me about $2200 a month if I were to purchase it again and take out a new mortgage. The difference between a $1250/month mortgage and a $2200 one is the reason why most cannot afford a house, even in Minnesota. In Seattle, taking out a mortgage on a two-bedroom one-bath house would be in excess of $3000 a payment, and anything similar to what I owned would be closer to $4000-5000 monthly. Not sure what helping someone with a downpayment is going to do to fix that problem.
Moreover, she suggests vaguely that she will increase incentive for builders to build more houses. Three million to be exact. What exactly will that incentive be? Builders are not building because the cost of materials is too high to build a house and be able to sell it to most people. If there was actually a market for new homes at the price they would be available for, then builders would already be building. We are not talking about a close call where they would build if things were 5% cheaper. A new starter house being built here in Seattle (something in the three-bedroom two-bath idea), would likely run well into seven figures, even in an average neighborhood. Existing homes currently on the market are unavailable financially for probably 75-80% of the population here, and maybe more. Why would anyone (much less a Presidential candidate) believe you can build new and make it affordable for low-income or middle-income families. It is economic fantasy.
Harris is also offering to increase the child-tax credit, which seems odd given all of the single childless cat ladies attacked J.D. Vance for suggesting people with children should pay less in taxes. Isn't this a proposal that would do just that? Allow people with children to pay even less in taxes than people without children? I wonder if those same single childless cat ladies will attack Harris like they attacked Vance. I mean, Harris is literally providing a concrete plan to make people with children be treated better than ladies with cats. Lastly, Harris is suggesting another debt give away. This time for medical expenses. As someone who worked in credit and collections for a hospital while I was in college, I can assure you that way more debt than people know is written off already. While I have more sympathy for those who end up with medical bills than those who took out student loans, the reality is that relieving people of debt will only drive the cost of medical services up for everyone else, or drive inflation if the Government is going to step in and pay for the past due amounts (much of which has already been sold off to credit collection companies for pennies on the dollar). We cannot make healthcare more affordable by relieving debt and with all due respect, the concept of bankruptcy is already a means to tackle that sort of situation for people. It is not ideal, but I know people who have filed more than once for bankruptcy relief and still function in society and can still get a credit card.
This is just tried and true socialism free giveaway ideas. This is Bernie Sanders stuff. It is also exactly what we did expect from Harris. My only surprise, again, is that the media is at least being a bit honest when they tell the truth about the realities of these policies.
On Wednesday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics will downward revise jobs for the April 2023-March 2024 period by up to 1 million. This means that all "beats" recorded in the past year will have been misses and the US job market is in far worse shape than the admin would admit.

I rarely if ever engage in political discussions on Face Fuck as buddy calls it.
If anyone honestly believes they’ll change anyone’s opinion, on anything on those types of media, they are as dumb as Alky.
I mainly use it as a resource for my hobbies, sourdough baking, staghorn ferns and when and where hikes for magic mushrooms are. There p’s a dude here that has an Fed recognized religion here for ‘shroom hunting. The cops can’t pop you if you are with him. Those are chanterelles we do hikes for others
Exactly why I'm not on Fake-book Cali, and I never will be. The stupid is at a level I could not tolerate. That, plus my reaction to it would get me banned for life inside of one hour.
