Elections could have been worse?

There was polling that suggested Democrats could have picked up as least one of those Florida seats.

There really was polling showing the FL-06 race to be close, with at least one poll showing the Democrat Josh Weil in the lead and another showing GOP Randy Fine only up by low single digits. Democrats had sunk tens of millions into these races, outspending Republicans by as much as six to one according to some. Not sure if they really expected to win either seat (they were both +30 seats in 2024) but it sure looked like they were trying to win them.

At the end of the day, the two Republicans won these races in the mid to high teens. A serious depreciation from the 2024 election, but a far cry from low single digits or even a loss. But given how poorly the GOP has done in special elections over the past few years, I would call this one a win.

There was little hope of winning that seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Even had it been closer than it was, it was clear that Wisconsin election officials were not going to allow Susan Crawford to lose. The unnecessary shenanigans were already in play before the vote counting even started. Now we will see if Crawford really intends to do all she stated and whether this 5-4 majority is any different from the previous 5-4 majority. We have to remember that both sides employ scare strategies. It may not end up being much of a change.

But one thing that Crawford had suggested in the past, was the concept of ruling "against" voter ID laws and calling them unconstitutional. But that Amendment passed overwhelmingly, much to the chagrin of many liberals who expected that vote to follow the Justice vote. But there appeared to be a significant amount of people who voted for Crawford but also for Voter ID. I wish the Voter ID question was on every state ballot. No doubt it would pass almost everywhere. Now it is part of the Wisconsin constitution and no set of Judges can overrule it. I call that a win.
