Did the GOP really win the 2023 redistricting fights?

Everyone was well aware that Republicans did better than expected during the 2020 redistricting. But it was expected that a variety of court rulings would help the Democrats (possibly significantly) before the next Presidential election.

According to a recent "Politico" article it would appear that at the end of the day the Democrats will have lost a seat due to redistricting since the 2022 election.

This seems counterintuitive as the Democrats challenged more redistricting plans (as Democrat tend to do with everything) and they seems to win more rulings. We even saw Democrats win unexpectedly even at the USSC level. However, while Democrats seemed to win more legal arguments overall, it was the classic quality over quantity situation.

Now given the argument being used over and over and over by the Democrats was about creating more "black districts" it never really occurred to Democrats that Republican legislatures might decide to create these new "black districts" at the expense of other Democratic districts. Democrats argued that carving up Democratic districts currently representing white liberals to create districts representing black liberals not in the "spirit" of the ruling. But quite obviously they had no real standing to make a valid "legal" argument when your entire argument is based on race. This was done effectively in a couple of red states that were forced to redraw the lines where the legislature (not the judges) got to do the redraws.

So in the end, Democrats went to court, won in court, and still ended up with the same amount of districts because the new lines replaced a white liberal district with a black liberal district. Oh, the delicious irony, huh?
