As is generally the rule, Democrats believe money grows on trees!
"We're going to have pays-for in [the bill]," House Speaker Mike Johnson told Fox News on Monday. "We're not just going to print money and send it overseas."
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called the bill a "nonstarter" and said it would "set an unacceptable precedent that calls our commitment to one of our closest allies into question."
Democratic Rep. Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, the ranking member on the House Appropriations Committee, said Monday that offsetting emergency aid with cuts to the IRS sets a "dangerous precedent."
So the talking points memo is to ignore the specifics of the issue at hand and instead focus on the precedent it would create. Reason? Because there isn't a U.S. citizen not wanting to work for the IRS who wants more IRS agents. For most Americans the concept of aid to Israel being offset by cuts to the IRS is a no-brainer (sort of like our President). This is why you will not hear any Democrats openly defending the new IRS agents (even though they do defend it privately).
If this is an example of the sort of things our new Speaker will take a stand on, then I am willing to give him a chance. It's smart strategy, it's good policy, it's a popular issue, and it puts Democrats in a precarious position. These sorts of opportunities just need to be realized and followed through with. Democrats have done a whole slew of fiscal slight of hand to hide their underlying intentions. They like to argue these issues with rhetoric rather than logic. Exposing them is how you win more people to your side.
This whole Palestinian terror attack has done more damage to the Democratic Party than anyone could have thought possible of an international event that did not have much immediate impact on Americans. That damage has come from little more than exposing the various liberal groups for who they are. Once the genie is out of that particular bottle, it is going to hard to stuff it back in.
Making them demand that Israeli aid be tied to more funding for the Ukrainian war and continued funding of more IRS agents is a bad look. They know it, but for some reason they do not want to give in. So they are pushing back with rhetoric about bad precedent. Not sure this is the best strategy for stopping the post Hamas attack political bleeding. Perhaps now was the time for Democrats to do something popular with everyone?
In case you've forgotten, it was TRUMP who took away the left's precious SALT deduction over $10 Grand...
If you're wondering where the term "limousine liberal" comes from, it might have something to do with the fact that Democratic policy - despite a sustained PR campaign to make it look as though it benefits the poor - actually benefits the rich.
That was the takeaway from Reason this past week, who wrote about how Democrats, despite beefing up the IRS and posturing that they want all Americans to "pay their fair share", are actually enacting legislation that eases the tax burdens of their high income voters.
As the report notes, the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act instituted a ceiling…
Scumbags like Schumer are boasting the lie that we need a massive expansion of the IRS to make sure the mega-wealthy pay their fair share. But it's the mega-wealthy who support the democrats almost exclusively. Those who stand to get hurt by the IRS are the small business owners, etc. The left knows this, yet they continue to lie about it.
