My first reaction is that Bash seems afraid of offending Harris and almost stutters the question to not make it sound like she is suggesting that Harris has done something bad,
The question comes almost with an apology, which is probably the best Bash can muster. The answer is a non-answer answer, which is exactly what we would have expected from Harris. In a round about way, Bash is asking Harris why her long standing principals do not appear to be part of her policy proposals. She provides Harris with a couple of possible reasons for this, but Harris ignores the hints and jumps right into her canned response, which really doesn't appear to answer the question asked.
After her canned response, Harris really does not provide any clear indication as to why her policy proposals do not match her views. Rather she just suggests that her views have not changed. So are we supposed to believe what Harris says to Bash, or are we supposed to believe what the Harris campaign is floating out there as policy positions? You certainly cannot have it both ways.
Rumor is that the 60 minute interview has been cut down to possibly half that time. No more than 18 minutes of interview. With commercials and such, that seems like a 30 minute segment. Perhaps that is just a rumor, but if true... how on earth can you not get more from both a Presidential and Vice Presidential candidate than 18 minutes? The other rumor is that CNN will not be releasing a full transcript of the interview. Why not?
Of course, if the teaser is the highlight of Harris's interview, then it must not have gone well.
There's an old expression that I recall my elders using when I was a kid -
"Treat a whore like a queen and treat a queen like a whore."
