The only candidate Biden is ahead of is Vivek Ramaswamy, but not by enough that he would win the Electoral College if it comes to that.
Why is CNN publishing such a poll? Perhaps the media and others are going to start pushing the idea of getting rid of the old geezer.
But in order, here is how the GOP stacks up:
Haley - up 6
Scott, Pence, Christie - up 2
Trump - up 1
DeSantis - tied
Ramaswamy - down 1
Bottom line here folks is that if you trust this poll at all, that it becomes obvious that Joe would lose the actual election to any of the candidates that the GOP currently has running. Literally. He would lose to f-n Chris Christie for the love of all things holy?
The Nikki Haley deal is a surprise because just in name recognition alone she is probably less known than anyone other than Ramaswamy. But perhaps people like the idea of a female President and if they know anything about her they might like the fact she appears to be someone of a liberal in Republican clothing?
One other thing that I found interesting. Trump does better among non-whites than everyone else polled, including Tim Scott who is black. He picks up 34% of the minority vote, while the next closest is Pence at 31%. Nobody else from the GOP polls over 30%.
For me, personally, there is a bigger issue involved here than just winning this election. If it becomes clear that Biden loses to anyone, then I would much prefer it be Trump. I may have held a different opinion about this a year ago. But with everything that the left has done to try to bring him down, having him win back the White House would be nail in the collective psyche of many of these liberals. While it would be fun to watch MSNBC or CNN analysists calling the Presidency for DeSantis, Scott, or Haley... it would be pure joy to watch them have to call it for Trump. The despair would be absolutely exquisite!
I still maintain that this is Joe Biden's race to lose for the Democratic nomination. Which is to say that Biden will need to drop out to not be the nominee. I am probably in the minority with that view as conventional wisdom is suggesting that Democrats will try to push him out. But... not sure it is quite that easy.
Certainly Biden may choose to drop out on his own. But I suspect his own personal interests with controlling what happens legally to his son and possibly what might happen to him if the wrong people start to investigate "why" Hunter was never charged is incentive to keep him in the race. I also think there are powerful people behind the scenes (eg Obama) who like the idea of a puppet President that others can control. They wouldn't get that with someone like Gavin Newsom.
Lastly, I believe that many are overestimating the ability of someone like Newsom to actually win a national election. Much of what he is doing in California is only popular with the fringe left and I believe most of the country understands instinctively that California is being poorly governed. He might poll better up front, but put him through a campaign and allow someone to pick apart all of the policies he has pushed in California, and I think he dies a slow painful electoral death.
Not sure it is a bounce... I am not sure they did this sort of poll previously. But there is a big disconnect between what the GOP primary voter wants and what the general voting public will want. I have not seen much horse race polling between Biden and anyone other than Trump and DeSantis.
Makes me really wonder about the Haley "bounce" from CNN
It doesn't make me wonder at all. CNN has no relationship with the facts or the truth. So any 'bounce' for Haley they may be reporting can be reliably assumed to be pure fucking fiction.
