He wants to keep the jury verdict in place, eliminate Trump's presumption of innocence, and not allow any further appeals to the case?
To be clear, the Judge owes everyone an actual ruling on the issue of Presidential immunity. Contrary to the belief of some on the left, he cannot just decide to sentence Trump without first ruling on that issue. Once that issue is ruled upon, Trump could file and appeal, which would again prevent Merchan from entering the conviction and sentencing him. There as some idea prior to the election that Merchan would rule on the issue of immunity and then go immediately to entering the conviction and sentencing Trump. Well it was rule on the immunity one day and move on to sentencing a couple days later, which would not give enough time to actually appeal.
But now that the idea of actually sentencing Trump is off the table, Merchan cannot really rule on immunity without allowing for an appeal and review. This case is still technically open until that ruling (and subsequent appeals) have been provided and as stated earlier Merchan owes it to the public to let the legalities play out. But Bragg is offering a convenient workaround that would allow Merchan to simply stand pat, offer that Trump has been found guilty, and just leave it at that. I think this would be just another travesty in a court case filled with travesties. It would unprecedented and totally unfair. But New York Judges seem to bend over backwards (or maybe just bend over) for Alvin Bragg.
Yay, Obunghole care bent the price curve……skyward
