217-215 with four Republicans voting against it
The legislation would raise the debt ceiling into next year in exchange for freezing spending at last year’s levels for a decade — a nearly 14 percent cut — rolling back parts of Mr. Biden’s landmark health, climate and tax law, imposing work requirements on social programs and expanding mining and fossil fuel production.
There is not a shot in hell that this passes the Senate, much less is signed into law by Biden. But the fact that the GOP can point to a tangible bill that would avoid the upcoming default and cut spending is probably a net win for them. After all, most Americans agree that we spending is out of control and that we need to reel it in. Generally the Democrats (with the help of the legacy media) wins these PR battles, but in todays fractious society with no real major central place to get news, we will likely remain widely divided.
I say.... let the country default. We did it once during the Obama administration and I don't recall the world ending. I believe that if we actually normalize the concept that we don't just have to raise the debt limit because we want to spend like drunken sailors, that possibly the GOP might win this argument one of these times. But when you constantly back down, it doesn't make it look like you really believe in your position.
I say that these asholes need to quit fucking around and just raise the debt ceiling to 100 QUADRILLION FUCKING DOLLAR$.
We're heading to complete economic and societal 'Hunger Games' collapse anyway, and all we're doing is taking our sweet fucking time getting there.
Let's mash the gas pedal, press the "Go, Baby Go" nitrous button and get it the fuck over with. What emerges will be those who endured the survival of the fittest. Then we can start over.
