And then pushes it as the only news that matters!
I have tracked twenty six polls since the debate that started to include Trump vs Harris. There have been eleven polls since Biden dropped out and Harris became the expected nominee. Of the twenty six polls, Trump leads in twenty one of them, two of them are tied, and three of them show Harris winning. Of the eleven since this weekend, Trump leads nine of them, there is one tied, and Harris leads in one poll. My average shows Trump ahead 3.4. RCP shows Trump up in both the head to head and five way matchup.
But guess which poll is being mentioned most in the media? Yep. The Ipsos Reuters poll! In fact, Goddard over at PoliticalWire.com made no mention of any polls until the Ipsos/Harris poll came out. Then he pumped it as proof that Harris is storming out to a quick lead. I have to hand it to the people living over on PoliticalWire.com. The commenters are literally comparing Harris to Obama and telling people that the excitement over Harris is like it was in 2008, if not even higher. One person said that his daughter asked if "this was what it was like in 2008". Sure... only the side with the mighty momentum is the Republicans, not the Democrats. But, hey, talk about turning an lemon into lemonade!
I also found it interesting that a couple of weeks ago, that pollsters were showing people like Newsom and Whitmer running ahead of Harris and now the latest shows everyone well behind Trump... except Harris. Seems a bit odd, but what do I know about polling!
Update: CNN just released a poll showing Trump leading by three points, but is plugging it as a closer poll result than Trump Biden, which had ballooned to six points. But given the polling right now will be showing a bit of a honeymoon for Harris, I don't think being down in a CNN poll is good news for the Democrats.
I think the Democrats are now stuck with Harris either way, so they will be circling the wagons around the California liberal. But I would love to see some hedging in the next couple of weeks if polling starts to go south on her!

A couple more polls came out since yesterday. Activote, Florida Atlantic University, and RMG. All were polling the Trump/Biden race. All show a marginal improvement from Biden for Harris, but all of them also show her trailing. FAU shows her losing by 6-8 points depending on whether you choose likely or registered voters.
four years ago, Biden lead by 8.7% in the RCP averages.
