Are Republicans headed for a clock cleaning in November?

It appears to be a matter of message rather than a matter of reality.

Ask yourself what Donald Trump ran on in 2024 and then ask yourself where he has failed? Why are Republicans seemingly so much on the defensive?

• His main issues was immigration. He suggested we needed to shut down the borders and deport more illegal aliens. Only those who disagree with the premise would suggest he is had not accomplished this or has gotten anything wrong here.

• He ran 35,000 ads regarding transgenderism, specifically opposing biological men in sports, children being transitioned, and the government footing the bill for transitioning eg soldiers in the military and even for criminals in prison. Obviously the whole transgender movement has seen a lot of pushback over the past couple of years and a growing number of people are back to believing that we have only two genders. Not sure how much of this is because of Trump, but it is an issue going in his direction.

• Crime was another big deal for him. As suggested recently in another post, crime is down by the highest levels we have seen since the US started tracking this. I would offer that this has nothing to do with gun control or any of the measures that the left believes in, but rather can be attributed largely to the deporation of hundreds of thousands of criminal aliens, as well as an increase at the top on persuing and prosecuting criminals.

• The economy was almost an afterthought, although the average of 5% inflation from the Biden years was obviously a talking point. In this regards, we have mixed results. The economy as a whole has been solid, the Fed is suggesting we are near or at full employment, and they feel confident enough in our economy to raise the rates to try to assist with inflation (which remains stubbornly around 3% rather than the goal of 2%). Democrats are hammering on "affordability" even though inflation is down and wages are finally rising at a higher rate (meaning people have more spending power).

So why are all of the polls suggesting that the GOP will take a beating? Perhaps it is just motivation from all of the Trump haters out there who would prefer armegedon to actually seeing Trump successful. Perhaps there is just such a growing unease over how divided people seem to be over Trump (in spite of 90% of the problem being on the left with a whole "devil made me do it" mentality).

Perhaps, it is about an unpopular war in Iran (although it hardly seems fair at this point to call it a war). We are literally just blockading their exports and attacking their global finances. The fact that we have not shot at or bombed Iran for a couple weeks now suggests that Iran has finally gotten to the point where they realize it is not in their best interests to attack warships or tankers with drones, if it costs them everything they are rebuilding.

Or perhaps the polling is simply incorrect and is way overstating a Democratic lead. After all, most all of the polling suggests that Democrats are less popular than Republicans and they managed to pick almost all of the worst candidates that they could have. It seems almost impossible to me that a Islamic antisemite socialist could win a statewide race in a battlegroud state, but El-Sayed is slightly ahead in the polls there. Can a person who believes god identifies as non-binary win in Texas? According to the polling, he certainly could.

What I have not really seen so far is polling suggesting what exactly the public is upset with other than some simply do not like the "bad orange man" and would legitimately vote for Hitler, Putin, or Satan if it came to the alternative choice being Trump. Perhaps there is too much "winning" as Trump suggests and the left simply cannot stand it. But at the end of the day, there is sometimes no reasoning with people when they get their mind set on something. Right now, the left is overly motivated to stop Trump, regardless of whether or not he is doing what he campaigned on.
