The GD group had received many times more specialist-level psychiatric treatment both before and after contacting specialized GIS than had their matched controls. A marked increase over time in psychiatric needs was observed. Among the GD group, relative risk for psychiatric needs after contacting GIS increased from 3.3 among those with the first appointment in GIS during 1996–2000 to 4.6 when the first appointment in GIS was in 2016–2019. When index period and psychiatric treatment before contacting GIS were accounted for, GR patients who had and who had not proceeded to medical GR had an equal risk compared to controls of needing subsequent psychiatric treatment.

Contacting specialized GIS is on the increase and occurs at ever younger ages and with more psychiatric needs. Manifold psychiatric needs persist regardless of medical GR.

So bottom line, the need for psychiatric care did not go away or even decrease because someone suffering from gender dyphoria got "gender affirming care". They had "equal risks" across the board, up to including an equal risk of suicide. This is not the first study that showed this dynamic to be true and I doubt it will be the last.

While there was at least one study from within the United States that try to suggest differently, it was statistically and logically flawed and had literally no control group. This study was little more than some people only talking to those who both had gender affirming medical procedures and were still coming to the same doctors for support (which was a minority of all patients). But these studies never bothered to check in with those who no longer went to these doctors and ignored them in their findings. When others did check in on these other patients they found a lot of unhappy people who simply refused to go back to the doctors that caused their unhappiness.

The underlying logic here is simple. If there is no actual mental health reason to push gender affirming care such as puberty blockers or surgery and the physical damage will include impotence, loss of an ability to have an orgasm, plus all sorts of other potential complications, what is the upside exactly? Clearly there is none, not unless you involve politics and the concept that many people are desperately trying to "normalize" the idea of gender affirming drugs and procedures.

Mental health issues are rising quite dramatically in the younger generations. There is plenty of evidence that this is upbringing, culture, and the fact that mental illness seems to be worn as a badge of honor in certain circles. Nobody wanted to have a loved one with a mental illness (much less personally have one) in my generation. But apparently that is just another form of hateful bigotry! Long live unhappy mentally unstable children! They are surely going to make great grown up liberals!
