Ilhan Omar suggested that Somalia and not the United States is her priority...

And so it continues. Ron DeSantis has called for her to be basically denaturalized and made ineligible for public office. Jonathan Turley suggested she was well within her rights under the first amendment. I think we might try to look for a happy medium here somehow and neither demand she leave the country or provide full throttle support.

When I read the statement I certainly wasn't surprised and I doubt many who know her well would be. She pledge support to Somalia first, her Muslim religion second, and pretty much made no mention that she in any way supports the country she represents in congress. I don't believe that is a slip up as I don't believe she has ever had the best interests of the United States as a priority. It is her best interest to see this country taken apart from within and drastically changed to represent the ideals that she has been taught by her Somalian culture and Muslim faith. This is the same thing many liberals in the United States believe, and an even larger percentage of those who follow certain Muslim priorities.

Does this mean she should not be allowed to be a US citizen? No. I don't believe that is a correct step here. Should she be a Representative of a US District in the US Government when her US District and US Government? Obviously that is a more serious question. But she has been elected to this position multiple times with those voting her in understanding exactly what she stands for. In a true Republic you are liking going to have all sorts of different types of people representing all sorts of conflicting views. Now generally most of these people ultimately have a love for the country and want to make it better. But, of course, there are those who believe it is so broken that it needs to be undone from within and rebuilt in a better way.

Certainly in many ways, that is what the whole "MAGA" movement is. Tearing down portions of the Government that do not work and either replacing them or even eliminating portions that do more harm than good. This is a movement that has a much better chance of success than a few members of Congress who would like the United States to turn into a third world Muslim guided nation. So while I believe Omar is stupid for saying what she says and the voters of her district are stupid for continuing to vote for her, I don't think any heavy handed moves to kick her out of congress or out of the country is the prudent thing to do. Eventually she will go too far and she will be voted out by the district which has a lot of Somalians, but not enough to carry her to victory on their own.
